Samson ben Joseph was the grandfather of Tosafists, Isaac ben Abraham of Dampierre (Rizba) and Samson of Sens (RaSh.)


Samson ben Joseph wrote Tosafot to the Talmudical treatises Shabbat, Erubin, Yebamot, and Ḥullin. He also recorded ritual decisions, one of which was criticised by Jacob Tam.
